#1 The Choki Dhani village restaurant

If you want to enjoy a unique traditional Rajasthani dining experience, Choki Dhani is the place to be. Offering the perfect blend of music, dance, culture, heritage, and hospitality, The Choki Dhani village restaurant Sangri is a befitting dining experience for adults and kids. It offers 3 types of thali experience - Unlimited Rajasthani Veg thali, Limited +Adds ons Rajasthani Veg thali , and International buffet. Since we are not humongous eaters, we settled for the thali which was limited but with the add-ons. Approximately INR 3000 for 2 persons, the thali wasn't the best I'd had in Jaipur. Although it offered a lot of varieties of rice, breads, lentils, curries and accompaniments, I'd say the experience of having a typical Rajasthani meal in a village setting and the exemplary hospitality was the highlight and not so much the taste of the food.

Address: 12 Miles Tonk Road Via Vatika, Sitapura, Jaipur

#2 Rawat Mishthan Bhandar

Famous for their Onion Kulchas and Ghevar, this spot is a breakfast must-try. They also serve jalebi with rabdi for breakfast. Ghevar is a round sweet cake made with flour and ghee, soaked in sugar syrup. The batter of all-purpose flour, ghee, milk, and water is poured into hot ghee and fried to a golden, honeycomb-like texture. It's often topped with saffron, spices, and nuts. We didn't snap photos of the onion kulchas, but their onion and aloo parathas were unbelievably good!

#3 Narayanji Gajak Wale

Gajak, a beloved winter dessert, is made from sesame seeds (til) or peanuts and jaggery. It's enjoyed during the colder months to help keep the body warm. While it originates from the small district of Morena in Madhya Pradesh, this crispy sweet treat is also widely popular in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

And the best gajak is available to go at shop number 344 Narayanji Gajak Wale near the Albert Hall Museum. Although he has various other sweets at his sweets stall, but the one that stands out is seriously the Gajak. Address: Shop No 344 , Johari Bazar , Jaipur.

You may also place your orders for local deliveries from their website: https://narayanjigajakwale.in

#4 Muhammadi Palace Restaurant

Jaipur's food scene reaches its zenith here, my friends! My husband, who has been an avid follower of India Eat Mania, always dives into researching the best eateries whenever we visit a new city in India. Before we even landed in Jaipur, Sidd had marked Muhammadi Palace Restaurant as a must-visit spot. Nestled in the bustling Chandpole Market, amidst the chaotic traffic and market noise, this restaurant stands proudly across from a Hanuman temple. Welcoming guests from all walks of life, it offers top-notch food in the heart of the hustle and bustle. The restaurant has a family section and a general area for single males. Since Sidd and I visited as a couple, we were seated in the family room. A friendly waiter recommended the best dishes, and we ended up ordering chicken changezi, mutton nihari, seekh kabab, butter garlic naan, and cola (just in case the food was too spicy). WOW! What we experienced was some of the finest food we've ever had in our lives.

Doused and served in pure ghee, the meat was succulent and tender, and the spices were absolutely perfect. The garlic naan was crisply done with extra garlic shavings, making it so delicious that I could eat it as a meal by itself. To end this grand feast, we were offered complimentary mitha paan (sweet betel nut leaf), and it was so delightful I felt like crying with happiness. We were so thrilled by the experience that we returned the next night, this time with dad and the kids (mum is strictly vegetarian). This time, we ordered even more dishes to satisfy our cravings: dal fry, chicken biryani, mutton rogan josh, butter naan, and malai chicken. We regretted not trying the laal maas, knowing it would have been fantastic, but there’s only so much the stomach and brain can handle. Maybe next time when we visit Jaipur!

#5 Kishan Mishthan Kendra

After scouring the town, I finally stumbled upon shop number 292, where I found the comforting warmth of garam doodh (hot milk), sweetened to perfection. Yes, all that searching was indeed for a humble glass of sweetened hot milk! This shop is also renowned for its traditional Jaipuri mithai, adding to its charm and appeal.

Address: Shop number 292, Main Market, Ramganj Bazar, Jaipur

#6 Laxmi Mishtan Bhandar

LMB is a renowned pure vegetarian eatery in the city. They offer a fast food service where you can either stand and eat or take away. We indulged in Dhoklas, Lassi, Samosas, Jalebis, and Khandvis until it was time to move indoors for more feasting in the proper dining area. Here, we savored Gatte ki Sabzi, Dal Bhatti Churma, parathas, kulchas, and puris. It's impossible to stop indulging here!

Address: No. 98, 99, Johari Bazar Rd, Bapu Bazar, Biseswarji, Jaipur

#7 Roasted Gunji from the city of Amer

Roasted Gunji is the iconic creation from the house of Swaminarayan Misthan Bhandar. It is made out of the finest Mawa, Powdered Sugar, Elaichi Powder (cardamom powder), Pistachios.

You also have local vendors selling plethora of this gunji (the brown coloured sweet seen in the round aluminium trays in the image below), namkeens (savouries), sweets and pedhas that are local to the region and wouldn't be easily found in other parts of Jaipur. Worth a buy if you are visiting Amer.

#8 1135 AD at Amer Fort

For an exquisite dining experience enveloped in the glow of candlelight, look no further than this charming rooftop restaurant! Perched atop the majestic Amer Fort, it offers a luxurious setting where fine dining meets soul-satisfying cuisine. Our reservation, carefully planned for 1 pm following our tour of the fort, granted us access to an open-air courtyard boasting breathtaking views of the sprawling fort and its magnificent entrance grounds. The ambience exuded regal elegance, adorned with portraits and depictions of the erstwhile maharajas, each telling a tale of Jaipur's storied past. While the culinary delights here may require a bit of a splurge, the investment is undeniably worthwhile. Each dish served is a testament to Jaipur's rich culinary heritage, meticulously crafted to tantalize the taste buds and leave a lasting impression.

#9 Lassiwala - Kishanlal Govind Narain Agarwal

Undoubtedly, the finest lassi spot in Jaipur! Situated at shop number 312 on MI Road, this lassiwala has been enchanting locals and tourists alike with their legendary kulad lassi topped with cream for over 75 years. Founded by Kishanlal Govind Narain Agarwal on Mirza Ismail Rd, this establishment is truly a gem of its era. Closing at 4 pm daily, it's advisable to schedule your visit or opt for a takeaway. A definite must-visit in Jaipur!

#10 Surya Mahal @ Oberoi Rajvilas

Surya Mahal, also known as the 'Sun Palace,' is the main dining venue at Oberoi Raj Vilas Jaipur, and it exceeded all expectations! Featuring both indoor and outdoor seating areas, the indoor space is elegantly decorated with chandeliers, carpets, and floral motifs, while the outdoor courtyard offers a serene ambiance with its wooden furniture, ivory-colored canopy, and traditional leheriya curtains. The menu is a delightful blend of Indian classics, along with Western, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisine. As anticipated from the Oberoi brand, the hospitality was impeccable. While the Laal Maas didn't quite meet our high standards, having sampled superior versions in Kashmir and Mumbai, the other dishes more than made up for it. An interesting highlight is the transformation of the alfresco courtyard into a cultural hub from 7 pm to 10 pm, offering guests a captivating cultural experience. I clearly missed out on this gem!

Address: The Oberoi Rajvilas Babaji Ka Modh, Goner Rd, Jaipur.

#11 Roasted Papad from Local Vendors

Try the crisp roasted papad sold by vendors outside all the famous tourist attractions of the city. Here is one right at the backyard of the Hawa Mahal. An article featured in NDTV, had it making big news about how an old lady made her living in Jaipur selling these papads for a sheer INR 20/- ( about USD 0.012).

It'd be great to try them as they are deliciously crunchy and also makes some earning for these poor vendors.

#12 Kulad Chai

And last but certainly not least, if you want to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, then you cannot overlook the iconic kulad chai in Jaipur! In Jaipur, the experience of savoring kulad chai is nothing short of magical. Served piping hot in earthen cups known as "kulads," this traditional chai carries with it a unique flavor and charm.
